Description of the Procedure
The EN 16143 method is based on the extraction of PAH-containing components followed by detection using GC-MS. The method was specifically developed for the analysis of process and plasticizer oils and provides robust, reproducible results. Even for complex samples.
We analyze your submitted samples using a validated procedure based on EN 16143. The PAH compounds are extracted with a solvent, then separated chromatographically and determined by mass spectrometry. The method is particularly suitable for complex matrices such as mineral or base oils.
The analysis is performed according to EN 16143 using GC-MS (gas chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry). Relevant polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are extracted, enriched, and subsequently identified and quantified. The procedure is standardized and allows for a reliable assessment of PAH contents.
Substances Analyzed
Our analysis covers all 8 PAHs required by EN 16143, with particular focus on benzo[a]pyrene the key indicator for toxicologically relevant contaminants in rubber and process oils. Each compound is determined individually with precise concentration values.
We analyze the eight PAHs listed in Annex XVII of the REACH Regulation including benzo[a]pyrene (BaP), benzo[k]fluoranthene (BkF), and dibenzo[a,h]anthracene. These substances are especially critical with respect to human health.
Standards / Accreditation

All analyses are conducted strictly according to DIN EN 16143 and fully comply with the requirements of the European REACH regulation. The method is validated and represents the current state of the art.
Sample Requirements / Shipping Instructions
For the analysis, we require a small amount of your material (20–30 g is sufficient). Please use clean, tightly sealed sample containers e.g. screw-cap plastic or glass bottles. Further details on sample submission will be provided automatically via email after your inquiry.
Please send approximately 20–30 g of your oil sample in a tightly closed, clean glass or plastic container, clearly labeled. Shipping can be done by post or courier.
Turnaround Time & Reporting
Within 5–7 working days after sample receipt, you will receive a complete analysis report by email. It includes all measurement results, methodological details, and a clear interpretation regarding the suitability of your product for use.
